Closing removes the whole account, not one sandbox. You can close the account only on the Account tab. It needs a dashboard sign-in session. Boat refuses the request from an API key and from the CLI.

What closing does

Closing does all of these at once:
  • It cancels your subscription immediately, not at the end of the period. You lose the remaining plan time and unused credits. If you close just after a renewal, you lose that renewal.
  • It archives every running sandbox, with a snapshot.
  • It revokes every API key and every other session. The session that you closed from stays active, so you can still read your invoices.
  • It sends you a confirmation email with the date when Boat purges your data.

The 30-day window

Permanent erasure

The same screen also offers permanent erasure, for GDPR requests. It does not wait 30 days. It scrubs the data and your identity when the sandboxes finish archiving. You cannot cancel or reopen it. Use ordinary closing, unless you specifically need erasure.
